Timbuktu – A Quick Review

Timbuktu had some of the most interesting scenes I’d seen in any film in the last year. A group of Jihadists arrive and bring their ideologies to the Muslim people of our quiet, tranquil title-town Timbuktu to the dismay of the residents. Women must relinquish their freedoms, young men can’t play football together… lashings are dealt. A striking film on the importance of maintaining one’s belief in the face of diminishing hope, an ode to the universal appreciation of a human’s primal protective nature of family – what’s real – despite the effects of religion on a person’s perception of earthly treasures.
